History


Pompano Beach was first settled in 1900 and was established as a city in 1947. The name of the city comes from the famous Pompano fish which is found off the Atlantic coast. Pompano Beach went through a boom in growth during the 1920's land boom and in the 50's population reached 5,682 residents. Today Pompano Beach has several key programs designated to rejuvinating rundown areas near the beach, which in turn have made multi million dollar building booms.

Pompano Beach is located in Broward County just north of Fort Lauderdale. As of 2007 the population of Pompano Beach was around 102,746. Pompano Beach is part of the Florida Metropolitan Area which boasts about 5,313,212 residents. With much redevelopment along the coast line, Pompano Beach has been aired on CNN and been featured in The Wall Street Journal as one of the country's top vacation markets. Pompano Beach is home to the Goodyear Blimp.
