History


The city of Sunrise was first incorporated back in 1961 when a developers first built model homes on the land to attacts visitors to the land, which was then a remote western edge of Florida.At the time it had a population of around 4,300 people, but by 1984 had an estimated population of around 50,000.In 1998 Sunrise opened its doors to the then new arena that would be the home of the NHL Florida Panthers.
