History

Founded in 1967, Coconut Creek took its name for the coconut trees artfully planted throughout the neighborhoods by early developers. Better known as the “Butterfly Capital of the World”, the community of Coconut Creek was established by combining the Village of Indian Creek and the neighborhood of Coconut Grove totaling 11.78 square miles.

Description

Located in northern Broward County, Coconut Creek now boasts lakefront homes, condominiums, and town homes with breathtaking butterfly gardens intricately woven within the community. Located between Miami-Dade and Palm Beach Counties, Coconut Creek has over 1100 acres of parks, preserves, and greenways amidst the neighborhoods offering coconut creek house rentals.

The Lyons Technology Center and Lyons Business Park are home to many large corporations with Coconut Creek housing more than 1,500 thriving businesses. The median house/condo value for the area in 2008 was $225,637.

Located to the south of the unincorporated areas of Palm Beach County, Coconut Creek is bordered by Deerfield Beach to its east, and Pompano Beach to its east/southeast. To its west is Parkland, Coral Springs, and Margate.

Residents


Coconut Creek is currently home to more than 50,000 residents. Namely a retirement community, the rich Mediterranean architecture and City’s progressive approach to a green community have given rise to a population diverse in age. The majority of Coconut Creek residents are employed in the retail or wholesale industries, real estate coming in as the second most common occupation.

Residents are treated to other attractions such as Butterfly World, the world's largest butterfly aviary hosting more than 80 species of butterflies. Seminole Coconut Creek Casino features live entertainment and gaming services alongside many other attractions. Coconut Creek is home to Broward College, three elementary schools, one middle school, and six high schools (both public and private).
