Royal Palm Beach

History

The city of Royal Palm Beach was once a swamp land used as a hunting ground by the Seminole Tribe. Sam and Hattie Friedland, supermarket owners in Philadelphia, purchased its land in the 1950’s. It was then resold to a Miami land developer name Arthur Desser. It was he who began to drain the swamp to create his vision, of what he thought Royal Palm Beach should be. Arthur Desser would not get to see his dreams of Royal Palm Beach the way he intended it to be due to bankruptcy. It was bought back by the original owners the Friedland's, who had no real estate or housing market experience. Marketing efforts caused the city to grow considerably over a fifteen year span. It was not long before schools and hospitals were built causing an increase in residents.
