History


Located just between Pompano Beach and Fort Lauderdale, Oakland Parks was settled and founded under the name Floranada in 1844 and is one of the states older municipalities. After a hurricane devistated the area in 1926 only a few farming families were left behind to rebuild. Eventually the town was repopulated and is now home to over 43,000 residents who know their home as Oakland Park. Today the eight mile town boasts a notable recreation program, an excellent library and an array of parks and outdoor activities.
