Boynton Beach

History Boynton Beach was named after American Civil War veteran Nathan S. Boynton, who was so impressed by the natural beauty of the area that he built a summer residence there for his family, the now-famous Boynton Beach Hotel. Due largely to its year-round sunshine, gorgeous beaches, and abundance of citrus fruits and vegetables, the area thrived and grew in popularity. The Town of Boynton was officially incorporated in 1920, and in 1931, a community calling itself Boynton Beach broke off from the rest of the town. This community was later renamed Ocean Ridge, while the Town of Boynton took the name “Boynton Beach” in 1941. Description Today, Boynton Beach, which is known as “The Gateway to the Gulf Stream,” is a large, diverse community that appeals to people from all walks of life. With its abundance of parks, nightlife, golf, fishing and more, everyone can find something they enjoy about the area.
